Welcome to my little corner of the internet!
I am Christine – mother, wife and lawyer. I have lived 46 years on this green earth – 40-ish of them as a reader. This blog is dedicated to my life as a book hoarder and devourer of the written word. I am seldom seen without a book near at hand. Now that my children are older, I have much more reading time than I did when I was a mother to young children.
I am proud to say that I have raised one reader, and am on my way to raising a second. I am a read aloud evangelist – my 13-year-old son and I are in the second year of a nightly unbroken reading streak that began on October 1, 2011. During the last year and a half, I have read aloud all of Harry Potter, all of Margaret Haddix Peterson’s Shadow Children series, and the first half of John Flanagan’s Ranger’s Apprentice. My daughter, one week shy of 17, is a voracious reader and straight-A high school junior.
There are authors that I loved as a child: C.S. Lewis, Madeleine L’Engle and J.R.R. Tolkien. Characters that I count as friends include Lizzie Bennett, Anne Shirley, Hermione Granger, Molly Weasley, Lady Julia Grey, and Lily Bart. I am a book nerd, openly, unashamedly and sometimes loudly passionate about books.
Forty-odd years ago I learned to read, and I realized that I could see the world through different eyes. From Sara Crewe to Laura Ingalls, I was a Victorian orphan and an American pioneer. The greatest gift that I have ever received was the gift of literacy – thanks, mom.
So, come on in, pull up a chair. Here I will talk about what I am reading and what I have read. I hope you’ll join me in the conversation.
